Heriot-Watt Dubai Campus host Psychology In Action Conference 2012
Dubai, UAE. 21 March 2012: Heriot-Watt University - in partnership with Dubai British School - is set to host its first interactive psychology conference on Monday 26th March at its Dubai campus. Targeted at students and teachers alike, the aim of the event is to showcase psychology as a practical discipline and applied profession giving delegates a flavour of its real-world relevance and application.
Dr Annie Crookes of Heriot-Watt University and Michael Drennan of Dubai British School will co-host the event and deliver opening speeches before welcoming a number of leading psychology practitioners and experts in their respective fields. Topics covered over the course of the day's events will include Sport and Clinical psychology professions, the science of emotion, and psychology in the environment among others.
Dr. Annie Crookes, Programme Coordinator and Lecturer for Psychology at Heriot-Watt Dubai Campus said, "We are delighted to be hosting the first interactive psychology conference in partnership with Dubai British School. The idea behind the conference is to bring students together and let them get fully involved with real psychologists and real experiments taking them beyond the curriculum."
Michael Drennan, Head of Psychology & Careers & University Officer at Dubai British School said, "Dubai British School is thrilled to be collaborating with Heriot-Watt University in delivering what will be a stimulating and engaging event for those with an interest in psychology. The subject's popularity continues to rise year-on-year and it is now one of the most highly sought-out school courses, however it can often be difficult to give students a sense of its real-life application beyond the classroom. Psychology in Action will showcase current developments and research within the field, giving a flavour of the richness of the subject."
Guest speakers will include Sarah Dunleavy, Claire Smart, Katie Laing & Dr Joan Henretty who are all local based practitioners. Two student-led sessions will also take place, involving student groups from various schools presenting their findings from psychological experiments as well as a team competition looking at psychological solutions to real world problems.
